7 Tips for Facebook Pages

By Web Heads - March 11, 2010

In our last article Social Media Explained we touched on Facebook and its importance in the viral marketing arena.  We spoke briefly about "Pages" and how they help you to gain exposure for your business. Now we would like to give you some more detail about Facebook Pages, how you can benefit from it and why it's still an open marketplace.

If you want to capitalize on Facebook Pages you first need to have a personal Facebook account.  Start connecting with people you haven't spoken to in a while and generate some friends. Once this is done you can create your business Facebook Page. While on your "home" page (news feed), you can click on the "Ads and Pages" link on left navigation. Now there should be a link that says "Create Page".  If you click that link you can start the process of creating a Facebook Page. We're not going to take you through that whole process but would like to highlight some of the important things you should be doing on your Facebook Page (That almost everybody is not doing!).

  1. When creating your Facebook Page pay close attention to the keywords and category you put your business in.  This is why Facebook Pages is still an open marketplace, because people are not doing this correctly and Facebook has become more widely used as a search engine! If you own a dentist office in Windsor Ontario you need to put these keywords in when you create your page (Dentist, Windsor, Ontario, Teeth, Cleaning, etc). We hope you understand how important this is.
  2. Make sure you have a clearly visible logo - this is the best branding opportunity for you so make sure its a nice version of your business logo.
  3. Make sure the short content area below the logo has your domain name and contact information in it - So many businesses write lengthly content here and forget that this is the most visible area on the page and should be utilized to promote going to your website, calling or emailing your business.  Writing intro text about your business and what it does is great but don't forget to give them what matters most! People hate to search for things.
  4. Add photos related to your business - Whether its pictures of your business, products, services, staff, you need to bring the page to life with some actual photos that make your business credible.  You'll see we've utilized this to show off some of our web design.
  5. Add videos related to your business - If you have promotional video then use it on your page.  People love to watch videos and these commercial opportunities are exactly what you are looking for when a potential client checks out your page.
  6. Post something on your wall every day - There has to be some news, promotion, update, information, link, video or quotes you can post everyday on your Facebook Page.  Our goal here is to attract fans and get them to tell their friends and the only way to accomplish that is to give them quality information. Teach them something new about your industry or brag about your new client (clients love being promoted as well). What's important is that you keep talking to your audience so they'll keep talking for you.
  7. Suggest to friends - Now that your doing all the above you can send out a blast to all your friends to become fans of your Facebook Page. You do this by clicking the "Suggest to Friends" link under your logo. You'll be surprised at the response you get instantly and how much your friends actually want to help you promote your business.

This is the greatest opportunity for you to spark your viral marketing effort and its still in its infancy.  How can you not capitalize on this monster of a community.  Come on people...use your Web Head!
