7 Website Goals That Show Customers You Care
By Web Heads - November 11, 2009
Here’s a list of website goals for your business that will show your customers that you truly care about them. These goals will help your potential customers gain confidence in your brand and ultimately turn them into loyal clients.
- Make it easy for them to do what you want them to do - Sometimes when you think something is obvious it most likely is not to the common user. Be clear and concise about what it is you would like them to do. If they are coming to apply for a mortgage then you should make it as easy as possible to do so.
- Tell them what they need to know – Tell them the things you’d rather not be upfront about (shipping costs, parking fees, etc.). You may lose some of the particular customers but at least they’re not going to feel like you held back some information that they should have known about.
- Save them time – Find any opportunity to save them time. For example, filling in form fields for them or providing links to things you are talking about instead of making them search for them. They hate unnecessary steps.
- Provide extra help – If your selling something complicated then give them extra help on how to use it properly. Provide them with specific instructions and visual representation if possible. Who doesn’t love pictures?
- Think of common questions and answer them – It’s called an FAQ people. I don’t have to call you to answer a question if it’s listed in your FAQ right? They don’t want to call you if they don’t have to.
- Give them features they’re accustomed to – Most Internet users have come accustomed to using several things, new and old. A “print” option is an example of something old and a “digg” button is something new. Give them this stuff and let them get comfortable.
- If an error occurs, apologize and direct them on – It happened, something went wrong on your site and the user see’s the dreaded error page. Instead of an error page, set the site up to show them something less embarrassing and harmful to their trust. Maybe say, “Oops, I can’t believe your seeing this. Our apologies, this problem will be fixed shortly. Please click here to return to your previous page”. Now at least it looks like you know that it happened.
Keeping these website goals in mind will allow you to develop a trusting relationship with your potential customer. If your current website is lacking in any of these features then make adjustments now before you lose your potential customer forever. It’s time to use your Web Head.
